About Sustainable Food Center
Sustainable Food Center (SFC) is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing food access across Central and West Texas. With nearly 50 years of impactful service, SFC focuses on improving the availability of nutritious food through various initiatives, including policy advocacy, farmers’ markets, and educational programs.
One of its flagship programs, Double Up Food Bucks Texas, increases access to fresh, local produce by offering SNAP and WIC incentives. Additionally, SFC runs The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre®, where participants learn essential cooking and nutritional skills to support healthy eating habits. Through its farmers’ markets, SFC connects consumers directly with local farmers, thereby fostering community wellness and economic support for small-scale agriculture.
SFC is actively involved in policy advocacy to promote justice and inclusivity within the food system, ensuring that all Texans can access fresh, healthy food. Through various campaigns, educational resources, and community engagement opportunities, Sustainable Food Center strives to cultivate a healthier food ecosystem for everyone.
