Sustainable Land Initiative

The Sustainable Land Initiative (SLI) is a nonprofit organization working to give conservation planners and technical service providers access to high-quality, low-cost planning tools. Its central project is farmOS: Conservation Planner, an open-source module designed with conservation planners to help farmers and landowners connect with available conservation funding and adopt regenerative agricultural practices. The software brings planning activities into one workflow, from farmer intake and farm setup to field mapping, site assessments, practice implementation plans, and report generation.

Users can create a central repository of projects, track funding status and conservation outcomes, and generate editable Word documents with maps and data. By reducing duplicate work and organizing information, farmOS:CP aims to make planning more efficient and strengthen grant applications, including aggregate applications that can support smaller and family farms. SLI reports that planners piloting the module have reduced planning timelines from one to three years to as few as six to eight weeks
