About Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program
The Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program (STEP) is a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering the implementation of sustainable technologies and practices across Canada. By conducting comprehensive research, monitoring, and evaluation of clean water and low-carbon technologies, STEP identifies barriers and opportunities for effective technology use. It develops essential tools, guidelines, and policies while offering educational and training programs to promote sustainable practices.
STEP collaborates with academic and industry partners through innovative Living Labs, emphasizing a practical approach to sustainability. Its evaluation process extends beyond physical products to include preventative measures and alternative urban designs, vital for creating sustainable communities. Acting as a third-party verifier for the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) process, STEP validates environmental claims related to new technologies, aiding informed decisions by users, developers, and regulators.
The program encompasses two key components: STEP Water, focusing on improving urban water management, and STEP Energy, which targets renewable energy solutions and energy conservation efforts, underscoring STEP's commitment to a sustainable future.
