Svendborg Museum is a state-recognised cultural history museum dedicated to the local history of South Funen, maritime heritage and archaeology. As part of Museum Sydfyn, it connects visitors with the region’s stories, from ancient finds and the history of Gudme’s kings to more recent times. Its offerings include exhibitions, events, archaeological collections and access to the Svendborg City Historical Archive.
Visitors can explore historic sites and collections, including Anne Hvide’s House, Egeskov Mill and the Antiquities Collection at Broholm. The museum also brings history beyond its galleries through guided town walks, themed talks and experiences with a guide aboard the M/S Helge. Along the Øhavsstien trail, walking stories combine outdoor exploration with local history through signs and audio accounts at the places where events unfolded.
For schools, the museum provides free teaching materials on subjects such as women’s history, the occupation of Svendborg and the medieval town. The museum also invites public support to help preserve historic vessels and is developing new premises for South Funen’s history
