About Svenska PEN
Svenska PEN is a non-political, non-governmental organization dedicated to defending the freedom of expression. As part of the global network PEN International, Svenska PEN consists of writers, journalists, librarians, publishers, and other literary workers who believe in the power of the written word without borders. Committed to combating lies, racism, and hatred, members support PEN's charter and work tirelessly to protect freedom of expression.
Svenska PEN supports imprisoned or persecuted writers by advocating for their release and raising awareness through public campaigns, debates, lectures, and teacher training. Through their international Internet forum PEN/Opp, censored texts are accessible to readers worldwide. Additionally, Svenska PEN awards the Tucholsky Prize to authors who are subjected to exile or threats due to their literary work.
With a rich history dating back to 1922, Svenska PEN now has over 800 members and is managed by a dedicated board led by Chairperson Jesper Bengtsson. If you are a writer, journalist, librarian, or work in the literary field, Svenska PEN welcomes your membership. Support their work by joining or contributing financially, and together, let's uphold the freedom of expression
