The Polish Prison Service (Służba Więzienna) is the public institution responsible for protecting society and carrying out the lawful, humane treatment of people deprived of their liberty. Its work includes managing prisons and detention centres, maintaining security, and supporting the rehabilitation and social reintegration of sentenced individuals. The organization also provides information and resources for prisoners’ education, employment, health, and rights, and operates an electronic monitoring system.

Its website helps the public locate penitentiary facilities, find official announcements and public information, and learn about recruitment, the Service’s structure, history, legal framework, and responsibilities. It also offers resources for foreign nationals and information about requests concerning people in custody. News, staff stories, podcasts, photo galleries, and the monthly Forum Penitencjarne publication provide insight into the Service’s activities and people.

The institution participates in research, education, human-rights initiatives, and projects supporting prisoner activation and rehabilitation. The Central Board of the Prison Service is based in Warsaw, and the organization publishes information through its official website
