SWIP-NL (Society for Women in Philosophy – Netherlands and Flanders) is an organization founded in 2013 to advance the interests and visibility of women* and other underrepresented groups in Dutch-language philosophy departments. Its work includes non-binary people and sexual minorities, while recognizing that experiences of disadvantage can intersect with discrimination related to ethnicity, nationality, religion, and other factors. The organization promotes collaboration and creates opportunities for these communities to be more visible and engaged in philosophy.
SWIP-NL offers a range of activities and initiatives rather than commercial products or services. These include lectures, reading groups, academic events, and public programs, as well as the Hypatia Lecture and the biennial Hypatia Prize, which recognizes an inspiring philosophy book written by a woman. The organization also shares interviews with emerging philosophers and highlights relevant events, workshops, and discussions. Membership is open to supporters of its aims and provides a voice in shaping the organization’s direction.
