Switchboard

Switchboard Victoria is a brand that aims to connect and support older lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or Intersex (LGBTI+) individuals across Victoria. They offer a program called Out and About, which is a free volunteer visiting service designed to reduce social isolation and loneliness among older LGBTI+ individuals. Their experienced staff match participants and volunteers based on shared interests and hobbies, facilitating friendship and community connections.

The program organizes regular catch-ups for activities like phone conversations, coffee or tea get-togethers, walks, movie outings, and attendance at LGBTI+ community events. They especially welcome referrals from individuals who have difficulty leaving the house, live with disability or chronic health conditions, access aged care services, live in rural or regional areas, identify as trans or gender diverse, or belong to other diverse communities. Switchboard Victoria's Out and About program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care and is part of the Federal Government's Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme.
