SWLHA

The Southwest Living History Association (SWLHA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that brings American history to life through public education and historical reenactments. Its focus includes the Revolutionary War and the American Civil War, with members portraying the people and perspectives of the 18th and 19th centuries. At events, participants wear historically reproduced clothing, use black-powder weapons, cook over open fires, and camp in canvas tents. Many adopt period speech and etiquette, keep journals in character, and demonstrate military and civilian life, creating an immersive experience for visitors and fellow reenactors.

The association coordinates events across Arizona and participates in gatherings in neighboring states. Its annual calendar is developed by reenactor coordinators and approved by the board and planning committee. SWLHA also welcomes additional periods and historic events, with units representing both British and Colonial forces of the American Revolution. Its “Rebels & Redcoats” weekend at Pioneer Village is described as the Southwest’s largest Revolutionary War reenactment.
