The Sylvia Short Educational Charity supports the growth and development of children and young people in Herefordshire by helping them access enriching learning experiences beyond the standard curriculum. It provides grants to schools, colleges and other educational organisations for projects that encourage achievement, learning and personal development. Funding can support individual pupils or groups, with grants of up to £500 for an individual and up to £1,000 for a group. Examples of previously supported activities include riding for disabled participants, drumming and music workshops, sports equipment and sessions, drama workshops, theatre visits, museum visits and participation in Young Voices.
Applications must be submitted and approved by a senior staff member at the student’s school or relevant educational organisation; parents cannot apply directly. Applicants need to demonstrate financial need, explain the project’s expected benefits and provide cost details. The charity prioritises those most in need, and awards are discretionary. Recipients must report how funding was used and the benefits achieved.
