Sympheny is a multi-energy system planning and optimisation software platform developed from more than a decade of energy-optimisation research at Empa and the ETH Domain. It helps engineering and consulting firms, utilities, cities, public agencies, developers and industrial sites design and compare energy concepts, from individual buildings to entire districts. Using mixed-integer linear optimisation, the platform models electricity, heat, cooling, gas, hydrogen, solar, storage and mobility together, allowing teams to assess technology combinations against cost, emissions and infrastructure constraints.
Users can create a digital twin from GIS, building and asset data, hourly demand profiles, tariffs and meter information, then run scenarios and explore Pareto trade-offs between life-cycle cost and CO₂.
