Synake

Synake is an Aotearoa New Zealand tool development company creating conservation hardware and adaptive field systems for surveying, monitoring and protecting the country’s native fauna. Its products are designed and manufactured in New Zealand, with a focus on practical tools that support wildlife and make fieldwork easier.

The company’s Modular Lizard Refugia (MLRs) are standardised artificial retreats for lizards, or mokomoko. They can be configured in the field to provide habitat intended to support lizard survival, growth, reproduction and abundance across a range of sites. Synake also develops Ultralite Funnel Traps for surveying lizards in remote backcountry environments. Designed for deployment without digging, these traps aim to reduce carrying weight and bulk while allowing equipment to be scaled to field needs without compromising survey integrity.

Synake’s offerings are currently described as conservation tools, with its Ultralite traps still under research and development. Together, the refugia and trap systems address the demands of wildlife fieldwork while contributing practical options for habitat support and fauna monitoring.
