ギャルリー正観堂

Galerie Shokando is an independent art gallery in Kyoto’s Shinmonzen district, near Gion, founded in 1989 as a gallery specializing in curated exhibitions. Guided by the idea of seeing art clearly and choosing by personal discernment rather than reputation or status, it introduces artists and works selected for their artistic character. The gallery focuses particularly on artists based in Kyoto and presents around ten exhibitions each year across a broad range of creative disciplines, including Japanese and Western painting, calligraphy, dyeing and textiles, ceramics, crafts, prints, and contemporary art.

Its exhibition history includes established and emerging practitioners, with featured works spanning painting, pottery, and other forms of visual expression. Located in a traditional-style space featuring juraku plaster walls and Joseon-era furniture, Shokando offers visitors an intimate setting for discovering art. Beyond exhibitions, the gallery provides art consultancy, current-value assessments and appraisals, and art purchasing and valuation services.

It is open from 11 a. m. to 6 p.

m. and is closed on Wednesdays and during seasonal holidays
