Syzygy is a fashion label co-founded by Yuan Lung Kao and Katrina Yu Wei Lee following their graduation from the Royal College of Art in 2018. The Taipei based design duo aims to provide modern women with innovative options of interactive clothing combined with architectural silhouettes and creative textiles. Syzygy is an astronomical term describing the alignment relationship of 3 celestial bodies: Sun, Moon, and our mother planet- Earth. As syzygy circulates, the moon brightens and dims, waxes and wanes. For the upcoming SS20 collection, Syzygy named our debut collection as “Eclipse”, inspired by the crystallized moments within the circulation of the 3 celestial bodies. As the Eclipses occurs under Syzygy, while the Moon and Sun complete each other within its shadow, the endless circle were created within the syzygy, which symbolizes the eternal circulation and infinite possibilities. Syzygy is a label that dedicates our aesthetics on multi aspects of fashion. We focused on texture designing and innovatively developed our own fabrics with laser cutting and specialized jacquard knitting techniques. Furthermore, we built a sophisticated modular fashion system by offering exchangeable patterns within garments. Multiple shapes, silhouettes, even functions, could be installed in simple steps. Through the combination of specialized textile design and construction, one garment with infinite possibilities could be achieved delicately, and interactive possibilities of fashion design could be enhanced exquisitely. The conceptual scaffold of Syzygy was gradually constructed during the MA study in the Royal College of Art by the design duo. Both of their graduate collections have received media exposure with the Reuters, Vogue Italia, Vogue British, Now Fashion, Dazed and Confused, 1 Granary and so on after LDFW 2018.
