Chowa Taidokan is a Taido martial arts club based in Angers, France, offering classes for children, teenagers and adults. Taido is a Japanese discipline founded in 1965 by Seiken Shukumine, combining movement, balance, coordination and adaptability through techniques that use changes of direction, rotations and varied body positions. Training includes foundational movements, partner practice, structured forms known as hokei, and combat practice called jissen. The club also presents Taido as a path that develops attention, self-control and consideration for others, alongside physical skills.
The association’s roots in Angers date to 1976, when Maître Marc Truong began teaching the art. Founded in 1986, it continues to share the practice across two training locations. Classes are led by experienced instructors, including Maître Truong and his successors. Members can take part in competitions, workshops, demonstrations and introductory sessions, and the club has welcomed international Taido experts. Chowa Taidokan has competed internationally since 1993 and reports a record of medals at international events.
