Typhoon is a special-purpose unit within Ukraine’s National Guard (NGU), focused exclusively on unmanned systems and related operations. Based in Kyiv, the unit recruits both civilians and serving military personnel, with transfers available for current NGU members. Its roles include pilots of FPV, Mavic, reconnaissance and strike drones; unmanned ground vehicle operators; drone-team commanders; aviation technicians; electronic reconnaissance specialists; and support positions in communications, medicine, engineering, driving, procurement, analysis and media.

Typhoon offers applicants a recruitment process beginning with an online application, followed by interviews with a recruiter and team commander. Candidates can join through mobilization or contract, and prior military experience is not required. Civilians complete the NGU’s basic military training course, which typically lasts about 60 days. The unit says it can provide role-specific learning and values motivation, knowledge and skills, alongside physical readiness. Advertised compensation for many positions ranges from UAH 35,000 to UAH 135,000, depending on duties and location.
