The Taimaka Project is a Nigerian-American NGO dedicated to combatting childhood malnutrition in Northeastern Nigeria. Led by Dr. Abubakar Umar and a team of experts, they provide innovative and sustainable solutions to address this pressing issue.

Their story began when Dr. Umar, a pediatrician, witnessed the lack of resources available to treat malnourished children in state hospitals. To prevent malnutrition, they started small gardens to grow high-protein crops for at-risk children.

This initiative forms the foundation of Taimaka's philosophy – local, long-term solutions to combat malnutrition. In 2019, Dr. Umar co-founded Taimaka with Parth Ahya and Justin Graham.

Initially focused on a micro-finance program for smallholder farmers, they later pivoted solely to malnutrition work. This shift allowed them to maximize their impact, striving to make malnutrition treatment more effective, affordable, and accessible. Taimaka's approach has received recognition from reputable organizations like Founders Pledge, USAID, and the D-Prize.

They prioritize evidence-based impact in all their endeavors. With a team of dedicated professionals and partnerships with various organizations, including Gombe State Ministry of Health and Vitamin Angels, Taimaka is making significant strides in the fight against childhood malnutrition.
