About Takataka Plastics

Takataka Plastics is a brand dedicated to transforming plastic waste in Uganda into high-quality and affordable construction materials. By adopting modern polymer processing equipment fabricated locally, they are taking a proactive role in closing the loop in the circular economy. Their innovative process involves collecting plastic waste, carefully sorting, shredding, and melting it, and finally molding it into various products.

The story of Takataka Plastics began when Paige, a graduate student at UC Berkeley, identified the plastic waste problem affecting her Ugandan friends. She collaborated with Gulu University students to assess the issue and interview over 200 people. In partnership with Peter, the founder of AfriGreen Sustain, Takataka Plastics was formed. They established a plastic collection center, built prototype machines, and fulfilled their first order in January 2020.

Driven by the demand for their wall tiles, Takataka Plastics aims to scale up their operations in Gulu City. Their mission is to create more jobs, manufacture more products, and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment. With a team led by Peter and Paige, both accomplished individuals in their respective fields, Takataka Plastics is committed to making a positive impact in their community by providing opportunities for disadvantaged individuals and educating on environmental care.

You can support Takataka's mission by making tax-deductible donations to help launch their pilot in Gulu. Stay connected with their progress by subscribing to their updates and engaging with them on social media.
