The Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival, established in the post-war era as a commercial revitalization initiative, is renowned for its splendid Tanabata decorations, often regarded as the most magnificent in Japan. The main venue, Shonan Star Mall, boasts around 500 vibrant decorations, including impressive installations that exceed 10 meters in height, featuring popular sports figures, animals, and trendy characters.

Held annually from July 5th to 7th, this festival offers a plethora of attractions, including a Tanabata decoration competition and a lively parade, making it a celebrated summer event in Japan. The festival's highlight is the selection of "Hiratsuka Weaving Princesses," who participate in various activities to enhance the festive atmosphere. Visitors can indulge in delicious local food from shops in the area or partake in over 30 food stalls set up in the park. With its colorful ambiance and engaging events, the Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival continues to be a cherished tradition, bringing the community together to celebrate creativity and culture every summer.
