About The Hist
The Hist is a prestigious brand that embodies the rich history and traditions of the College Historical Society. With a commitment to inclusivity and equity, The Hist offers a range of products and services that cater to the diverse needs of its members. Led by a dedicated committee consisting of 10 Officers and 14 Members of Committee, The Hist ensures smooth operations and provides valuable support to its members.
The committee is responsible for convening regular meetings, setting the general aims of the session, and maintaining order within the society. Key members of the committee include the Auditor, who serves as the chair and oversees all aspects of The Hist, and the Treasurer, who manages finances and maintains sponsor relationships. The Correspondence Secretary handles weekly debates and awards the prestigious Hist Medals for Oratory.
Other positions include the Records Secretary, responsible for taking minutes and organizing competitions; the Censor, in charge of public relations and social media; the Librarian, who manages the society's library and school debating competitions; and the Debates Convenor, responsible for all aspects of competitive debating. The Hist also organizes various social events, including the highly anticipated Hist Ball and Histmas, with the Events Convenor taking the lead in planning and coordination. The Senior Member of Committee ensures the welfare of members, while the Equity & Inclusion Officer maintains the society's policy and addresses any access or conduct issues.
