The Compassionate Friends Potomac Maryland Chapter is part of a national, nonreligious self-help organization supporting families after the death of a child, at any age and from any cause. It welcomes bereaved parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and other adult family members, offering a caring, safe space to listen, share experiences, and find understanding and hope. The chapter’s approach recognizes the value of families supporting one another: people further along in grief can reach out to those newly bereaved, helping both move toward healing.
The chapter holds monthly meetings, and newcomers are welcome to attend without an appointment or bring a friend. Because each meeting is different, visitors are encouraged to try three meetings before deciding whether the program is helpful. The organization’s mission is to assist families toward a positive resolution of grief and provide information that helps others offer support. The Potomac chapter is part of a network of more than 500 Compassionate Friends chapters across the United States and beyond.
