About Biodiversity Information Standards
Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) is a not-for-profit scientific and educational association and an international community focused on improving how information about biodiversity is recorded, managed, shared, and disseminated. Historically known as the Taxonomic Databases Working Group, TDWG brings together the creators, managers, and users of biodiversity information to support collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The organization develops, ratifies, and promotes standards and guidelines for recording and exchanging data about organisms. It also provides technical resources, including standards metadata, technical recommendations, utility vocabularies, and vocabulary translations. These resources help support consistent practices across biodiversity information systems.
TDWG offers opportunities for community participation through interest and task groups, online discussions, meetings, and publications. Its activities include an annual international conference, where members and others can discuss biodiversity information management and related developments. The organization also shares announcements, conference news, and other updates, and invites people to become members. Through its standards, resources, and community activities, TDWG supports the wider and more effective exchange of knowledge about the world’s biological heritage.
