The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) is the professional organization representing teachers in Alberta, with objectives established under the Teaching Profession Act. It supports members throughout their careers and works to advance the interests of teachers and public education in the province. Its services include help with employment-related questions, access to collective agreements, and information on pay, benefits, leaves, pensions and retirement. The ATA’s Teacher Qualifications Service reviews members’ education to determine salary-grid placement, while its library provides research and resources for professional practice.
The association also offers professional development through workshops, presentations, events, exchanges, grants and scholarships, as well as resources for mentorship, inclusive education and Indigenous education. Teachers can find career guidance, certification information and support for beginning and substitute teachers. Through advocacy, campaigns and advice on issues such as curriculum, human rights and school governance, the ATA represents educators and contributes to discussions about Alberta’s schools. It also publishes news and magazine content and hosts conferences and events for members.
