Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence is a grassroots movement founded by educators across America. Their mission is to bring attention to gun violence in schools and communities, influencing policies and promoting safety for all Americans. The movement was established after the tragic Oxford High School shooting in Michigan in November 2021 by three public school teachers and members of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), two of whom are survivors of previous school shootings.
Teachers Unify welcomes narratives from all school and university staff, working to empower this vital segment of the population impacted by gun violence firsthand. They share survivor stories, offer resources and support to educators, and work to drive changes in local, state, and federal gun violence prevention legislation.
The movement was founded by Abbey Clements, Sarah Lerner, and Sari Beth Rosenberg, all dedicated educators with years of experience and a deep commitment to ending gun violence. With a strong focus on education, advocacy, and support, Teachers Unify plays a crucial role in reshaping the national dialogue around gun violence and ensuring that teachers are not excluded from these critical conversations.
