About Ako Mātātupu
Ako Mātātupu is a brand dedicated to addressing educational inequality in New Zealand. Aotearoa has one of the highest levels of educational inequality in the developed world, and Ako Mātātupu is determined to change that. They believe that all young people in New Zealand should have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Ako Mātātupu offers a sustainable, national network of community-driven leadership as their contribution to improving outcomes for young people. They provide teacher training through their flagship programme, attracting outstanding individuals who are passionate about addressing inequality. In addition, Ako Mātātupu has a Kairapu community, bringing together participants, alumni, and supporters who are united in their commitment to educational equality.
Over the years, Ako Mātātupu has made a significant impact, working with thousands of children from low-income backgrounds and recruiting over 220 exceptional teachers. By addressing the inequities in education, Ako Mātātupu aims to help all children realize their potential and create a more equal society
