About Te Herenga Waka University Press
Te Herenga Waka University Press, a prominent division of Te Herenga WakaโVictoria University of Wellington, has been a cornerstone of Aotearoa's literary scene since its establishment in the early 1970s. Under the leadership of publisher Fergus Barrowman since 1985, the press has evolved from a one-person operation to a team of six, publishing approximately thirty-two new titles annually, which totals around eight hundred works to date.
The press is celebrated for its diverse offerings, showcasing Aotearoa's foremost fiction and poetry writers alongside emerging talents. Notable authors include Eleanor Catton, Tusiata Avia, and Bill Manhire. It also excels in scholarly and literary non-fiction, addressing vital topics such as history, politics, and cultural studies.
With a mission to discover and promote new voices, Te Herenga Waka University Press not only enriches the local literary landscape but also extends its reach through e-book formats available from various retailers. Their commitment to a broad spectrum of literature reflects Aotearoa's rich cultural heritage and contemporary narratives.
