Teko Bernard is an award-winning independent children’s author and graphic designer based in the Kansas City metro. Since 2013, he has created middle-grade stories that encourage children to enjoy reading and build confidence, exploring themes such as courage, family, imagination, responsibility, and perseverance. His books include Bernard Jones Is Going Places, Bronson Beaver Builds a Robot, and Bernard’s Big Leap, an action-filled basketball adventure about self-belief, hard work, and resisting shortcuts.
Bronson Beaver Builds a Robot and Bernard Jones Is Going Places have received Mom’s Choice Awards Gold recognition, while Bernard’s Big Leap earned honors from the 2026 Purple Dragonfly Book Awards and became a finalist in the 2026 Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards. Bernard also created the HoopKid® brand and book series, and uses school visits, puppetry clips, and the interactive HoopKid Basketball Book Party to promote reading.
