About Telfed
Telfed is a well-established brand that has been instrumental in making Israel home for the South African Jewish community for over 70 years. The organization's history traces back to the pre-state years when over 800 South African machalnikim (overseas volunteers) came to Israel to aid in its defense. Telfed was created to support these individuals and help them establish a life in Israel.
Over the years, Telfed has adapted its services to meet the evolving needs of new immigrants (Olim). They have collaborated with various Zionist organizations, the Jewish Agency, and the South African Zionist Federation to promote Aliyah (immigration to Israel) and assist Olim in integrating into Israeli society. Today, Telfed continues to provide essential support, such as welcoming Olim, offering affordable housing options, supporting lone soldiers, encouraging volunteering, and providing assistance when needed.
To celebrate its 70th anniversary, Telfed has documented the history of the Southern African Jewish Community in Israel through interviews, articles, memorials, and more. To learn more about this remarkable brand and its impact, visit Telfed: 70 years of stories
