Temple Mill Island is a private residential community on the River Thames in Bisham, near Marlow, Buckinghamshire. The gated island brings together 62 homes set among attractive communal gardens, with a private marina and a designated mooring provided for every property. Although the setting is peaceful and waterside, the island is described as only 10 minutes from the M4 and M40 motorways.
The island’s name reflects its industrial past. Three watermills once stood here, beating copper and brass to produce items such as kettles and pans. The mills were known as Temple-Mills and were noted by Daniel Defoe in his early eighteenth-century account of Britain. Today, Temple Mill Island is presented as a distinctive place to live, combining river access, landscaped shared spaces and a close-knit residential environment. Its website offers information about the island, its history and location, alongside a gallery and a video fly-through. The site is owned and updated by the Temple Mill Island Council and also provides a residents’ section.
