About Te Uru
Te Uru is a renowned contemporary gallery located in the picturesque outskirts of Tāmaki Makaurau. As a home for contemporary culture, Te Uru offers a unique perspective that is fresh, relevant, empowering, and essential to the wellbeing of our communities. With an international program, Te Uru reflects its place in Aotearoa and the wider Moana region by connecting new ideas and practices with local and global networks.
Situated in a stunning award-winning building in scenic Titirangi, Te Uru attracts visitors from near and far, showcasing extraordinary exhibitions and offering spectacular views of the surrounding area. Originally established in 1986 as the Waitemata City Arts and Cultural Centre, Te Uru has a rich history and has become a vital cultural hub in Auckland. The name Te Uru, which translates to the west wind, signifies its connection to the region and the stories of the local iwi, Te Kawerau ā Maki.
Guided by values such as aroha (love), whanaungatanga (relationships), and kaitiakitanga (guardianship), Te Uru strives for excellence and aims to be a trusted and valued member of the community
