The Tournois Français des Jeunes Mathématiciennes et Mathématiciens (TFJM²) is a distinguished mathematics competition designed for high school students, initiated in 2011 by the association Animath in collaboration with various higher education and research institutions. Unlike typical mathematical contests, TFJM² focuses on research problems that require collective reasoning and teamwork, with teams consisting of four to six participants guided by one or two mentors.
Every year, a list of eight unique problems, rooted in research and anticipated to stimulate elementary investigative work, is released. These challenges are structured into regional competitions held each April, culminating in a national final in May. The format engages students in debates, fostering critical analysis as they take on roles such as defenders and opposers, ensuring an immersive experience akin to genuine research scenarios. Participants not only gain exposure to the world of research but also enjoy rewards and recognition. The tournament emphasizes creativity and collaboration, making mathematics an engaging subject.
