The Thanet Coast Project works with local people to protect the wildlife and distinctive coastal features of North East Kent. Its website provides information about the area’s habitats, marine life and birds, and supports the management of the North East Kent Marine Protected Area. The coast includes the country’s longest continuous stretch of coastal chalk habitat and a range of important nature conservation sites.
The project offers practical ways for residents and visitors to learn about and care for the coast. Activities and resources include coastal events, school and group visits, self-guided learning, responsible rockpooling advice, beach-clean guidance and opportunities to volunteer as a Coastal Warden. Visitors can also find information about coastal access, safety, codes of conduct, water quality and reporting potential hazards. Research resources cover topics such as shellfish, Pacific oysters and non-native species, while the site highlights local competitions, wildlife projects and excursions. The project relies on donations and grants, and invites people and businesses to support its conservation work or sponsor a project.
