The Exiles

The Exiles is a UK-based martial arts organisation offering classes in Europe and online. It teaches a comprehensive curriculum grounded primarily in the works of Fiore dei Liberi, a combat instructor from the late 14th and early 15th centuries. Training covers unarmed striking and grappling, dagger techniques, short stick, longsword, poleaxe and spear, with practice both in and out of armour. Lessons combine practical application with study of the physical and psychological aspects of combat.

The organisation’s instructors follow a shared curriculum and training methodology, developed through nearly 30 years of research by Exiles members and collaboration with other groups. Its approach emphasises structured, safe and realistic training, informed by the historical context of Fiore’s work and adapted to modern constraints. Members can access online classes, training resources and related material, as well as events, away weekends and seminars. The Exiles also encourages cooperation and peer review with other groups studying Fiore and historical European martial arts.
