The Official Actors Studio

The Actors Studio is a renowned association of artists that serves as both a place and a philosophy. Founded in 1947 in New York City by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford, and Robert Lewis, it has been a haven for theatre artists to explore new and deeper connections to their work. With a focus on redefining the art of acting, our founding members, including actors, writers, and directors, have made significant contributions to American art.

At The Actors Studio, we believe in developing techniques and exercises that allow actors to search for and express truth onstage in the moment. Our founding Artistic Director, Lee Strasberg, revolutionized the art of acting with his renowned technique, 'The Method,' which continues to have a global impact. Membership at our Studio is free and for life.

After successfully completing auditions, actors are invited into our membership. While our work and activities are exclusively for the benefit of our members, we occasionally open our doors to the public when a project is deemed ready for viewing. With locations in New York and Los Angeles, our bi-coastal membership enjoys similar activities on both coasts.

Additionally, we are affiliated with Pace University, offering a 3-year Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) Degree at our Actors Studio Drama School. Please note that while a similar name implies association, 'INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO' is separate from The Actors Studio itself and is part of the curriculum at Pace University.
