Team Alves is a family-run Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Sarasota, Florida, established in 2012. The gym welcomes people of all ages, genders, body types, and fitness levels, emphasizing a safe, supportive environment built on respect, discipline, and trust. Its guiding principle, “Family Over Everything,” reflects the close community among students and the husband, wife, and son who teach there.
New students can start with one-on-one instruction from Professor Alves to build confidence before joining group classes. The schedule includes more than 20 classes per week, with programs for children ages 4–8 and ages 8 and up, adult beginners, female-only students, and open mats for all. Team Alves also offers training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, grappling, and MMA. Katrina is certified in Yoga for BJJ, and the school’s activities include post-training ice baths and barbecues. Beginners need only workout clothes without pockets for their first class; the gym can help with equipment if they decide to continue.
