The Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) is a pioneering regional initiative inspired by the Leticia Pact, dedicated to advancing scientific understanding and conservation efforts in the Amazon. Formed to combat urgent environmental challenges such as deforestation, forest degradation, and wildfires, the SPA comprises over 280 esteemed scientists. Their notable contributions include the 2021 Amazon Assessment Report, recognized for its comprehensive analysis and inclusion of Indigenous perspectives.
The SPA promotes scientific innovation by bridging knowledge gaps and encouraging the involvement of academia and emerging researchers. Under the auspices of the Sustainable Solutions Network, led by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, the SPA aims to drive investment in science and technology, ensuring a sustainable future for the Amazonian region.
Through the collaborative efforts of its members, with a dedicated communication team and contributions from various artists, the SPA continues to engage the public and raise awareness about the critical importance of preserving the Amazon. Their work underscores a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development in one of the world's most vital ecosystems.
