ARTCENA is France’s National Centre for Circus Arts, Street Arts and Theatre. Supported and funded by the Ministry of Culture, it works to promote contemporary creation, encourage discovery and help audiences connect with performances and works. Since its merger with the Centre de ressources international de la scène (CRIS), effective 1 January 2024, ARTCENA has been bringing together digital resources on theatre, circus and street arts. The merger also safeguards public access to CRIS’s theatre data, collected since 1998, and supports its gradual transfer to ARTCENA’s website.
ARTCENA offers documentary resources, directories, event calendars, listings, a dictionary, publications and practical guides for performing-arts professionals and audiences. Its programmes and services include workshops, events, individual consultations, project presentations, research support, work and meeting spaces, and assistance for playwrights. It also runs writing initiatives, awards, educational resources and international projects. By consolidating complementary collections through a shared portal and improved indexing, ARTCENA aims to make information easier to find and to preserve resources through partnerships and durable digital infrastructure.
