The Boxing Academy is an alternative school in Hackney, London, serving boys and girls at Key Stages 3 and 4. Owned and governed by the Boxing Academy Trust, it grew from a small project in a boxing gym and is built around a caring, relationship-focused ethos. The school offers places for 48 students, a focused curriculum leading to five GCSEs or equivalent, and a wide range of enrichment activities. It also provides a pathway to further education and employment, aiming for every leaver to progress to one of these destinations.
The Academy uses an attachment-aware, trauma-informed approach. Staff receive training in attachment awareness, trauma-informed practice and emotion coaching, with the aim of helping students thrive and ensuring no young person is left behind. Referrals come through partner schools or local authorities, with children and parents involved throughout. The school supports families through weekly reports and ongoing communication. It reports being oversubscribed since 2013, and its March 2025 Ofsted inspection judged it Outstanding in all areas.
