About The Comfort Project
The Comfort Project is a Vermont-based nonprofit offering compassionate, non-medical support to eligible individuals and families navigating Medical Aid in Dying in Vermont. Its services are particularly relevant to people traveling from states where this option is unavailable. The organization helps clients understand eligibility requirements and the steps involved, and provides practical guidance from early planning through end-of-life arrangements.
Support includes coordinating logistics with independent Vermont doctors, hospice providers, and pharmacists; helping identify lodging; and sharing information about after-death care. The team can arrange for an authorized courier to deliver medication and meet with clients and their loved ones to review standard medication instructions and plan for the day. At the clientโs request, trained team members can assist with mixing the medication and remain present to provide practical and compassionate support. The Comfort Project also helps notify hospice and funeral homes after a death and offers information about grief support groups.
Services are offered on a sliding scale, with four listed contribution tiers from $2,000 to $5,000.
