The Design Writer is an editorial platform exploring the ideas behind design through articles, reviews, interviews and features. With a focus on architecture, interiors, objects, exhibitions and design culture, it connects readers with the people, processes and thinking that shape the built and made environment. Its coverage includes Australian homes and studios, international design events, contemporary furniture and materials, and historical movements such as Art Deco.

Stories highlight the work of architects, designers, artists and makers, often sharing project details, creative approaches and the cultural context behind their work. The site also publishes object-focused features, exhibition reviews, travel reflections and design inspiration, alongside information about books and new design ventures. Recent articles explore heritage renovations, sustainable and garden-oriented homes, experimental oyster-shell terrazzo, handcrafted metalwork and innovative furniture.

The Design Writer presents design as both a visual practice and a way of understanding how people live, make and experience spaces and objects. Its writing is aimed at readers seeking informed, accessible perspectives on design ideas and creative work
