With a focus on diphtheria, a dangerous infection caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae, they have recorded 11,587 suspected cases, out of which 7,202 have been confirmed in 105 local government areas across 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory. In response to this alarming situation, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has taken action by establishing a national emergency task team. The majority of confirmed cases have been reported in Kano, followed by Yobe, Katsina, and Borno. Sadly, 453 people have lost their lives, with the case fatality rate (CFR) standing at 6.3%.
