The Good Chess & Checkers is an editorial guide to learning chess and checkers and choosing equipment for real-world play. Edited by Mara Bell, the site is designed for beginners, families, teachers, and gift buyers who want clear advice without tournament jargon or unnecessary fuss. Its learning resources explain chess piece movements and checkers rules, including variations players may want to agree on before starting.

Buying guides help readers compare beginner, family game night, and travel sets, with attention to readable pieces, board contrast, comfortable play, storage, portability, durability, and replacement pieces. The site also covers classroom and club needs, teaching materials such as portable whiteboards and flip charts, and practical questions about beginner chess camps and correspondence chess. Its editorial approach emphasizes honest tradeoffs, distinguishes common guidance from rules that may vary, and does not claim personal product testing when it has not occurred.
