The Great Ski Race

The Great Ski Race® is an annual fundraising event established in 1977, dedicated to supporting the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue (TNSAR) Team, a non-profit organization comprised of dedicated volunteers. Taking place every March, the race challenges participants with a scenic 26km loop around Mt. Watson, showcasing the beauty of the Tahoe area. As one of the largest Nordic ski competitions west of the Mississippi, it not only promotes outdoor activity but also raises vital funds to equip TNSAR volunteers and enhance winter survival education programs.

Despite its cancellation in 2024 due to adverse weather conditions, the event is beloved by the community, with all registrants automatically rolling over to the next year's race. The Great Ski Race® exemplifies community spirit, drawing racers and supporters together to champion safety and preparedness in winter conditions. By participating, individuals not only engage in an exhilarating athletic experience but also contribute to a noble cause, ensuring that TNSAR can effectively serve and protect the Lake Tahoe area.
