About The Holy Donut
The Holy Donut is a family-owned brand that specializes in creating delicious donuts using fresh local ingredients, including Maine potatoes. Started in late 2010 by founder Leigh Kellis, The Holy Donut was born out of a passion for flavorful, wholesome food made with quality ingredients. After months of experimentation and taste testing, Leigh perfected a northern Maine recipe that incorporated a unique ingredient: riced potatoes.
This added a distinct flavor, texture, and consistency to their donuts that set them apart from the competition. Initially selling a few dozen donuts to local coffee shops, The Holy Donut quickly gained popularity and expanded to include multiple locations. With the support of Leigh's father, Allan Kellis, the brand grew and established a loyal following.
Despite facing financial challenges, the family's dedication and hard work paid off as they opened their first shop on Park Avenue in Portland in March 2012. Today, The Holy Donut has four locations in Maine and continues to serve their one-of-a-kind donuts to a growing customer base.
