Project HOPE South Africa is part of Project HOPE, an international health organization that has worked in more than 120 countries since 1958 to expand access to quality, sustainable health care. Its signature South African program, The HOPE Centre, serves communities facing poverty and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes and other chronic conditions.
Based in Zandspruit, the Centre provides clinic services, where patients can schedule appointments to help limit waiting times. Its staff see about 40 patients on an average day. The program also offers daily educational classes to help patients develop healthier lifestyles and conducts community screening and awareness activities, including outreach for World Diabetes Day.
Beyond clinical care, Project HOPE South Africa supports community initiatives such as gardens tended by local residents. Their produce is sold to local businesses, while projects such as sustainable herb gardens bring staff, volunteers, sponsors, and community members together. The organization also invites people to volunteer, donate supplies, and support its work through financial contributions.
