The National Institute of Minority Economic Development is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing economic prosperity for diverse populations. With more than 40 years of experience, it works to strengthen communities and the asset base of diverse populations through policy leadership, education, and expanded economic opportunities. Its work supports small-business competitiveness, access to capital, affordable housing, and community economic development, guided by values of trust, excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

The Institute offers entrepreneurship and business support through its Center for Entrepreneurship & Partnership Engagement and Women’s Business Centers in North Carolina and Central Virginia. Other programs include the ScaleUp Program, Minority Executive Education Institute, and the Durham Opportunity Hub. Institute Capital provides debt and investment capital to affordable housing developers, community-based development organizations, and small businesses. The Institute Community Development Initiative supports collaborative community economic development efforts in North Carolina, while its Research, Policy & Impact Center produces research and convenes forums and events. Together, these services aim to foster prosperous, resilient, and sustainable communities.
