The Rotary Community Breast Milk Bank is a charitable trust serving babies and families in Canterbury, New Zealand. Supported by the Rotary Clubs of Garden City, Christchurch, Papanui and Riccarton, it works with midwives and women in the community to make pasteurised donor breast milk accessible to babies who need it. The service focuses on providing a short-term supply, with the aim of helping babies access donor milk for at least their first six weeks of life and supporting mothers to continue exclusive breastfeeding for longer.
The milk bank welcomes breast milk donations and notes that demand is high. Parents seeking donor milk, or midwives enquiring on their behalf, can call and leave a message for a volunteer to respond. The bank operates from rooms on level one at St Georgeβs Hospital in Christchurch, which provides space and support for its work. Its philosophy is that every baby is precious and that babies in need should have access to donor milk.
