The Modern Classic Society's

The Modern Classic Society (TMCS) is a nonprofit historical society and fashion community founded in 2017 in St. Louis, Missouri. Inspired by vintage clothing from the 1930s through the 1960s and the women who wore it, the organization works to preserve and share the history, fashion, and culture of St. Louis women. Its collection, built primarily through donations from the St. Louis metropolitan area, includes women’s wear, coats, hats, shoes, accessories, and a dedicated Nelly Don collection.

TMCS collects and curates historical fashion artifacts and oral histories documenting women’s lives and the influence of clothing, designers, and styles. It aims to support research, teaching, and public education by preserving its historic costume collection and providing reference materials and access to the collection. The society also presents historic fashion shows and exhibits, participates in civic events, and collaborates with schools, colleges, libraries, theaters, museums, and community organizations. Through these activities, TMCS offers a welcoming setting for learning about women’s history through fashion and culture.
