About The New National
The New National Hotel in Cape Town has a rich history dating back to 1950 when it was built by an Englishman named Jimmy Taylor. Situated on commercial plots, the hotel thrived in the 70's and 80's, hosting dances, weddings, and parties, and serving as a meeting venue for various clubs. However, new legislation requiring a bathroom for every room led to a change in ownership for many hotels in the industry.
Taking advantage of this, the SA Breweries bought the hotel but eventually sold it to the Marcows brothers, who established themselves as one of the leading liquor chain stores in the 1970s. The hotel was later purchased by a Swiss Hotelier and underwent major renovations, including the addition of 10 new rooms and a function room. Today, the New National Hotel has been repositioned under new management and caters to airport and business travelers, as well as corporate, sport, and leisure groups.
With its unique combination of entertainment offerings and old-world charm, this landmark hotel continues to thrive in the area
