the Oakland Volleyball

The Oakland Volleyball Program is a nonprofit youth sports organization dedicated to making competitive volleyball accessible to the Oakland community. Established in 1998 as Starlings Oakland, the program has more than 25 years of experience developing players and supporting participation in club volleyball. Its central commitment is affordability: the six-month girls program costs $2,100, substantially less than the fees cited for comparable clubs, and committed players are not excluded because of financial hardship. The organization can also assist with tournament travel and accommodations.

Girls teams train in Oakland school facilities and compete from January through June in Northern California Volleyball Association and USA Volleyball events, including league play, special tournaments, and qualifiers. The program has also expanded to offer boys’ volleyball for players 14 and under, with competition through the Junior Volleyball Association. Led by Program Director Lisa Busbee-Young, its staff and volunteers provide coaching, training, and opportunities for athletes to build skills and compete.
